LEWISTON – The Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce will present the Ray Geiger Award to Tom Platz for his visionary leadership in promoting the renaissance of the Lewiston-Auburn area in business development, the arts, and education.

The award will be among several given at the chamber’s annual meeting Feb. 2 at the Ramada Conference Center.

The Business Leadership Award for a large company will be presented to the Sun Journal. The newspaper chose to do a significant expansion of their business in downtown Lewiston. It has also been very aggressive in expanding their business into new markets, not in Androscoggin County.

The Business Leadership Award for a small company will be presented to Lamey Wellehan, which recently opened its new flagship store on Turner Street in Auburn.

The Lisbon Business Award will be presented to L & B Electric and owners Jim and Nancy Lamson. In addition to developing their successful electrical contracting business in the Lisbon industrial park, they have been instrumental in assisting the growth of the Moxie Festival.

The Public Service Leadership Award will be presented to Jim Bennett, city administrator of Lewiston. He has aggressively supported commercial development all over the city.

Two Community Service Leadership Awards will be presented. The first will go to Estelle Rubinstein, the executive director of Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care, where she has worked for 33 years. The second will go to the Franco American Heritage Center, and leaders Rita Dube and Lionel Guay, for creating a performance venue in our communities.

The Greene & Leeds Business Award will be presented to Sedgley Place and owners Paul and Suzanne Levesque. The Sedgley Place, fine dining restaurant, was established in 1978.

The Turner Business Award will be presented to Youly’s Restaurant and owners Dan and Donna Briggs.

The Education-Business Partnership Award will be presented to Carol Albert of Manpower.

The Ken Additon Small Business Advocate Award will be presented to Bob Kasputes.

Two businesses will be honored with President’s Awards: The Munroe Inn owned by Connie and Clint Zimmerman and Safe Handling.
