WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) – A part-time student counselor at Westerly High School has resigned after she was arrested on drug possession charges.

Robin Boyajian was arrested on Dec. 28 when Hopkinton police found crack pipes and crack cocaine in her car after pulling her over. She faces two felony counts of possession of crack cocaine and a misdemeanor charge of driving with a suspended license. She said the drugs were not hers, according to a police report.

Boyajian, 41, of Warwick, said in her resignation letter she was unable to continue counseling due to her circumstances. She was not a school district employee.

Westerly Superintendent of Schools Thomas DiPaola said Boyajian counseled students individually and in groups on a fee-for-service basis and was at the school 14 to 15 hours a week.

“It’s difficult for anyone to open up their deepest concerns … to someone,” DiPaola told The Westerly Sun. “With some kids there’s been, I think, a sense of betrayal. (They think), How could someone I’ve trusted been a part of this?”‘
