ATLANTA (AP) – Michael Redd scored 28 points and Bobby Simmons chipped in with 25, helping the Milwaukee Bucks snap a three-game losing streak with a 118-102 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night.

The Bucks played without guard T.J. Ford, who stayed home with a strained left hamstring. It didn’t matter against the listless Hawks, whose NBA-worst record slipped to 10-28.

Trailing 23-20 at the end of the first quarter, Milwaukee took control by halftime and steadily pulled away. Atlanta didn’t get any closer than nine points in the final period, and trailed by as many as 19.

The Bucks got to the free throw line on four straight possessions to start the fourth, with both Maurice Williams and Jiri Welsch converting three-point plays that helped push the lead to 88-75.

Redd finished off Atlanta – first with a 3-pointer, then with a steal of Al Harrington’s errant pass. Running the other way, Redd missed an easy lay-in off a lob pass, but Williams tipped in the rebound to make it 95-80.

The Hawks called timeout and sulked off to the bench, looking every bit like a team headed for its sixth loss in seven games.

Salim Stoudamire led Atlanta with 23 points.

The Hawks didn’t fare well against former coach Terry Stotts, who took over the Bucks this season. He coached in Atlanta for nearly two years, but was let go after the team got new owners in 2004.

It was the first matchup between the top two picks in this season’s draft. Milwaukee’s Andruw Bogut, who went No. 1 overall, had only five points but led the Bucks with 13 rebounds. Marvin Williams, taken by Atlanta with the second pick, managed nine points.

Ford’s spot in the lineup was filled by journeyman Jermaine Jackson, who made his first start of the season and just the second of his four-year career. He scored two points in 16 minutes.

Williams picked up the slack, scoring 19 points – most of them on 11-of-11 shooting at the foul line. Welsch and Dan Gadzuric also made big contributions off the bench with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

The Bucks held a commanding edge in free throws, going 36-of-43. The Hawks were 23-of-33.

Notes: The Bucks (20-18) kept their record above .500, which it’s been since they started the season 3-0. … Milwaukee outrebounded the Hawks 46-36. … The Hawks had only nine players in uniform. Tony Delk, John Edwards and Tyronn Lue didn’t dress.
