MILTON, Vt. (AP) – Police on Sunday were looking for two suspects who robbed a man at gunpoint outside the Chittenden Bank on U.S. Route 7 early Saturday morning.
The victim was making a business deposit in the night-deposit box at around 1:20 a.m. when one suspect opened the passenger side door, pointed a handgun at him and demanded the bag of money.
The suspects took the cash and fled.
Both men appeared to be in the 20s and both wore dark sweat shirts with the hoods pulled over their heads. The first suspect was described as a white male approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, clean shaven, with a long thin nose.
The second suspect was described as a white male approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall.
Police don’t know if the suspects knew the victim would be making a night deposit, Milton police officer Gordon LaFountain said.
“It’s an ongoing investigation so the motive and the planning isn’t known at this point,” LaFountain said.
The number of thefts have been increasing in Milton.
Since January, 28 burglaries have been reported and only two arrests have been made.
Police believe the rise in crime is drug-related.
“This is just speculation, but a lot of the crime is drug-related. You see a lot of theft from vehicles,” LaFountain said. “They’re just after the quick money. That’s why we believe they’re drug-related.”
