BOSTON – Greg Moore scored twice and added an assist and Keith Johnson had two goals, including the go-ahead score, as Maine pulled away in the third period for a 6-3 win over Northeastern on Friday night.

Northeastern’s Dennis McCauley scored on the power play at 12:41 of the second period to tie the game at 3-3.

Maine (16-9-0, 9-7-0 Hockey East) went ahead for good on Johnson’s goal at 2:01 of the third. Travis Wight and Jon Jankus added insurance goals.

The teams traded goals through the first two periods. Johnson’s goal at 5:57 of the first was answered by the Huskies’ Yale Lewis at 10:23. Moore’s power-play goal at 15:18 of the first put the Black Bears on top again, but Northeastern (1-17-5, 1-12-5) tied it on Brian Deeth’s goal just 21 seconds later.

Moore gave Maine a 3-2 lead at 3:18 of the second before McCauley tied it again.

USM 4, Bowdoin 1

GORHAM – Mark Carragher netted a pair of goals to lift the University of Southern Maine to a 4-1 win over Bowdoin in men’s ice hockey action Friday evening.

Following a scoreless first period, Carragher broke the silence with a goal for the Huskies (6-10-2) on assists from Kyle Smith and James LeBlanc at the 18:56 mark of the second period.

LeBlanc made it 2-0 on a power-play goal for the Huskies just 44 seconds into the third period, but Mike Collins cut the lead in half for the Polar Bears (10-5-2) three minutes later.

Carragher scored a short-handed goal for his second tally of the game at the 12:14 mark of the third period, and the Huskies never looked back.

Women’s basketball

Bowdoin 80, Amherst 50

BRUNSWICK – Jill Anelaukas came off the bench to score a game-high 17 points as Bowdoin sailed to an 80-50 win over Amherst in women’s basketball action Friday.

With the game tied at nine apiece midway through the first half, the Polar Bears (14-2) hit the accelerator when Marisa Berne keyed a 34-10 run with a pair of 3-pointers. Anelaukas scored her first 11 points in the spurt.

Eileen Flaherty contributed 10 points, while Julia Loonin had a game-high seven assists for the Polar Bears.

The Jeffs (7-9) were led by a nine-point, six board effort from Stefanie Reiff.

Colby 63, Trinity 59

WATERVILLE – Kate Emery scored her only basket with 20 seconds to play and converted the ensuing free throw for a three-point play to lift Colby to a 63-59 triumph over Trinity.

The White Mules (7-10) held what appeared to be a comfortable 59-44 lead with 5:23 remaining, but Trinity went on a 15-0 run to tie the game with 39 seconds remaining. After a timeout, Tanya Rosbash drove the lane and spotted Emery alone on the baseline for the game-winner.

Katie McCabe led Colby with 23 points. Leigh Melanson scored 22 for Trinity (6-10).

Bates 67, Connecticut College 49

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Matia Kostakis and Meg Coffin each netted 13 points to pace the Bobcat offense as Bates downed host Connecticut College 67-49 in a NESCAC contest.

Jackie Powers and Katie Franklin each notched nine points for Bates (13-6), which improved to 4-1 in NESCAC play.

Katy Serafin dropped in 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season. Kate Kenly and Ashley Ryall each finished with eight points for the Camels (6-12).

Men’s basketball

Trinity 68, Colby 48

HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior co-captain forward Tyler Rhoten tallied 20 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots to lead Trinity to a 68-48 win over Colby in NESCAC men’s basketball action Friday evening.

The Bantams (14-3) scored the final six points of the first half, including the last four on a pair of layups by junior guard Kino Clarke to take a 34-26 lead into the break.

Junior guard Nick Farrell kept the Mules (6-11) in the game in the first half with 11 points while recording 15 points, six rebounds and four steals in the game. Junior center Drew Cohen totaled 11 points, a team-high seven rebounds and a pair of blocks for Colby.

Amherst 86, Bowdoin 72

AMHERST, Mass. – Dan Wheeler shot seven-of-nine from the field for 19 points and pulled down five rebounds to lead 10th-ranked Amherst to its fifth-straight win, 86-72, over Bates.

John Beford chipped in with 15 points and five rebounds, and John Casnocha added 13 points for the Jeffs (15-2).

Kyle Petrie led the Bobcats with 21 points, including three 3-pointers, and dished out five assists.

Kevin Bradley had 13 points, and Andre Hippert joined him in double figures with 10 points.
