TAMPA, Fla. – John Grahame made 29 saves for his third shutout in his past four games and Brad Richards had two goals to help the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Washington Capitals 5-0 on Saturday night.

Grahame stopped Alexander Ovechkin’s shot from the right circle with 5 minutes to play, one of his key saves in his fifth shutout of the season and 12th overall.

Richards scored a short-handed goal with 4:27 left in the second, and added a power-play score from the top of the left circle to give Tampa Bay a 4-0 lead with 1:05 remaining in the period.

Ruslan Fedotenko had a goal and two assists for Tampa Bay, which has won seven of nine. The Lightning also got goals from Ryan Craig and Norman Milley.

Tampa Bay center Vincent Lecavalier missed the game with what team officials called an upper body injury. He is one of three Tampa Bay players on Canada’s roster for the Turin Olympics.

Ovechkin was held pointless and remains one point away from tying Washington’s rookie scoring record. Bob Carpenter and Chris Valentine each scored 67 points in 1981-82.

The Capitals have lost five of seven.

Fedotenko tied a Tampa Bay record for the fastest goal to start a game when his soft wrist shot went between goalie Brent Johnson’s pads at 11 seconds. Dino Ciccarelli also scored 11 seconds into a 4-1 victory over Washington on Feb. 15, 1997.

Craig’s rebound goal made it 2-0 with 4:14 left in the first. The rookie has eight goals in 20 games. Milley gave Tampa Bay a five-goal advantage with a power-play goal with 3:59 to play.

According to the Capitals, this was the first time two second-generation NHL goalies played against each other in a league game. Johnson’s father Bob played for St. Louis and Pittsburgh, while Grahame’s father Ron spent time with Boston, Los Angeles and Quebec.

Johnson had 32 saves.

Notes: Lightning D Darryl Sydor (facial laceration) returned after missing two games. … Washington played without C Jeff Halpern (back) and RW Matt Bradley (foot).
