RUMFORD – Gordon M. Wentzell, 73, died Sunday, Feb. 5, at his residence on Fontaine Avenue in Rumford.

He was born in Rumford on May 9, 1932, the eldest son of the late Melvin R. and Georgina (Carruthers) Wentzell of Rumford.

He attended schools in Rumford and graduated from Stephens High School in 1950.

He was married to Louise Noyes of Dixfield on Nov. 8, 1950, in Dixfield.

He worked at Oxford Paper Co., Ethyl Corp. and Boise Cascade Paper Co. for more than 42 years, retiring in 1991 as a maintenance foreman. Since that time, he and his wife spent the winter months in Orlando, Fla.

Gordon was a member of Blazing Star Lodge No. 30 AF & AM; member Rumford Falls Aerie No. 1248, F.O.E.; life member Rumford Maine Lodge No. 862, B.P.O.E.; Kora Shrine in Lewiston; Oxford County Shrine Club; Oxford Council No. 14; past president of Mollockett Mixers Square Dance Club of Rumford; Mt. Zircon Chapter No. 142, O.E.S.; and Pine Castle No. 321 in Orlando, Fla.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Louise Wentzell, of Rumford; two daughters, Sandra Wentzell-Donovan and husband, Kevin, and Cheryl Bell, all of Rumford; a son, CPO Kurt E. Wentzell and wife, Denise, of Virginia Beach, Va..; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin R. Wentzell of Springfield, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Robert, of Kansas; two sons, BM1 Rex Scott Wentzell of Norfolk, Va., and Gordon M. Wentzell Jr. of Thomaston, Conn.

Gordon will be missed by many friends and relatives here in Maine and in Orlando, Fla.
