LEWISTON – Maurice G. Michaud, 83, formerly of Boston Avenue, died Tuesday Jan. 31 at d’Youville Pavilion.

He was born in Lewiston on Nov. 23, 1922, a son of Frank and Lea (Goulet) Michaud. He was educated in local schools, graduated with honors from Lewiston High School and remained a lifelong resident of this community.

Maurice was veteran of the military, having served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. While in the service, he was awarded several medals, including the Purple Heart.

On Oct. 29, 1955, he married the former Patricia C. Doucette, who died on May 15, 2001.

He worked 43 years at the W.S. Libbey Mill until his retirement.

He was a member of Holy Cross Church and through his great love for animals, he was a longtime advocate and great supporter of the Humane Society.

He was also an avid golfer and was a member of Summit Springs in Poland for many years. His love for the game came about back in the ’40s when he had the opportunity as a young man to caddie for a time for local professionals.

He leaves a stepson, Paul Dwinal and his wife, Ann, of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Paul Dwinal and wife, Pam, of Bowdoin, Debra Dwinal and her companion, Kevin Fletcher, of Wales, Steve Dwinal and wife, Annette, of Lewiston, and Stacey Dwinal and husband, Suresh Kraut, of Lawrence, Mass.; five great-grandchildren, Megan, Marissa, Stephanie, Chloe and Macie; two sisters, Laurianne Cormier of Lewiston and Gilda Dennis and husband, William, of Auburn; several nieces and nephews; and his dog and faithful companion, Maggie.

He was predeceased by his wife; two brothers, Philip and Frank; and a sister, Jeannette Michaud.
