CANTON – Arnold M. Johnson, 87, of Canton, went to be with the Lord, Friday, Feb. 3, at his home in Canton, with his wife of 57 years, Cynthia Johnson, and his family by his side.

He was born on Jan. 29, 1919, in Rangeley, a son of Chester and Clara (Morton) Johnson. He attended and graduated from Rangeley schools.

On, Nov. 14, 1948, he married Cynthia Russell in East Livermore. They later made their home in Canton.

He worked at Boise Cascade in Rumford for 31 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army for 4 years.

He was a member of the Dixfield American Legion Post No. 100 for many years, as well as a 25 Year Club member of Boise Cascade.

Arnold was a faithful member of the Canton Faith Assembly Church and was the overseer of its construction.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching animals and camping. He loved building, fly-tying and oil painting in his spare time. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia, of Canton; a son, Chester and his wife, Linda Johnson, of Rangeley; daughters, Rosemarie Walsh and her husband, Richard, of Richford, Vt., Karen Walsh and her husband, Michael, of Canton, and Annette Johnson of Eddington; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Johnson of Jay; a brother, Stanley Johnson and his wife, Millie, of Arizona; a sister, Elenor Dumas and her husband, George, of Auburn; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; stepmother, Alice Rand Johnson; brother, Herbert Johnson; sister, Mabel McKusic; son, Kenneth Johnson; and granddaughters, Crystal Johnson and baby Walsh.
