LEWISTON – The Boston-based Foundation, Jane’s Trust, recently awarded $150,000 to Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council. The gift of $50,000 a year for three years will support the after-school Girl Scout programs in public housing neighborhoods in Lewiston and Portland.

Approximately 100 age 5 to 17 girls participate in Girl Scouting through programs offered in Kennedy Park, Riverton Park and Sagamore Village in Portland and Hillview Family Development in Lewiston.

“We are excited that this grant from Jane’s Trust will allow us to continue working with girls in Portland and Lewiston public housing neighborhoods as they discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together,” said Girl Scout Chief Executive Officer Joan McDonald.

Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council provides programs to more than 10,000 girls in the 10 counties of southern, central and western Maine. For more information, contact Joanne Hulsey at 772-1177 or via e-mail at joanneh@gskc.org.
