LEWISTON – Trinity Episcopal Church will hold a worship service in the tradition of the Taize Community at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19. The service will consist of prayers, several readings, followed by meditative singing and several periods of silence for prayer and meditation.
Taize is an ecumenical international community in France started by Swiss Protestant Brother Roger in 1940. Founded to promote peace and reconciliation in the midst of the destruction and upheaval of World War II, the Taize community promotes a ministry of justice, kindheartedness and openness to all, rooted in the Gospel image of the compassionate Christ.
The worship services of the community include meditative singing of repetitive songs to create a space for opening hearts and minds to God’s presence, prayer, scripture readings and several periods of contemplative silence. For more information, visit the Taize Web site at www.taize.fr.
Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 247 Bates St. at the corner of Spruce Street and the entrance is on the Bates Street side.
Trinity Episcopal will hold several Taize services this spring. The next one is scheduled for March 19. All are welcome. For more information, call 782-5700 and ask for the Rev. Larney Otis or Regina Knox.
