PHILLIPS – The Zone Coalition has welcomed two new board members. Elected by unanimous vote at a board meeting on Feb. 7 were Paula Roy of Avon and Sharon Dudley of Phillips.

The coalition is spearheading the renovation of the old gym in Phillips and developing programs for the community and the youth such as the SAFE Zone and the Phillips Area Boys and Girls Club projects.

David Robie, boar chairman, said, “We are extremely fortunate to have these two individuals join the Zone board. They are well respected in the community and especially well liked by the kids in the towns we serve. Additionally, their experience in the school systems will bring a strong voice to the organization on behalf of the community and the youth.”

Roy, a longtime resident of Avon, is a social studies teacher at the Phillips School. She is also the Student Council adviser and a sponsor of the Boys and Girls Club’s “TOAST” (after-school homework) program at the school. She also pens the Phillips articles for the Franklin Journal.

Dudley brings extensive experience in community events and a love of fundraising. With three kids in the school system, she is an “expert” in all things youth-related. She has worked for the SAD 58 school system for more than five years and in the past has worked with the Strong Student Council as adviser.

Dudley has been involved with the district after-school program and served as a coach for the Strong Pep Squad. She has also been involved with the Phillips Chamber of Commerce.

Dudley said, “I feel honored to have been asked by the SAFE Zone youth and the Zone Coalition to join the board. I look forward to working with the board, the youth, doing some fundraising and bringing the community together.”

The coalition is a nonprofit organization striving to bring back the heart of the Phillips/Avon/Madrid area through the development of the old gym as a community center for the youth and the community of all ages.

The Zone welcomes donations of time or funds. More information can be found on www.zonecoalition.com.
