So successful has the vaudeville form of entertainment grown to be that the New England circuit of theatres devoted to such shows promises to be materially enlarged the present year. There is talk of adding several first class theatres at present in use for the drama to the string, and in a number of cities new houses are in contemplation. Of the latter projects it has been announced that parties are looking the ground over at Lewiston and also at Bangor. New theatres built at Lewiston and Bangor to accommodate vaudeville would be paying investments according to a well-known theatrical man.

• A new presidential order today virtually relieved fathers and men over 26 from any present likelihood of being drafted. They will still be subject to call, a White House announcement said, but they won’t be drafted unless military manpower needs cannot be met from pools of younger men and nonfathers.

As associated producer on the CBS-TV show, “Face the Nation,” Beryl Denzer has pancaked and powdered some of the nation’s leading political faces.
She told a group of wives at the Congressional Club that the politically smart spouse will carry along a small makeup kit, to fix up her man when he’s to be interviewed in some remote studio where no professional aid is handy.

After weeks of fund raising, members of the Shaw’s Supermarkets sponsored L&A Travel Teams Inc. have raised $2,632 while at the same time giving one lucky Lewiston resident a chance for a three-minute grocery shopping spree.
At a ceremony Saturday afternoon, Paul Dwinal of 8 Peter Blvd., Lewiston, was chosen as the winner and will be allowed a three-minute shopping spree at the Lewiston Shaw’s at a date still to be set. The cost of the spree will be donated by Shaw’s.
