BANGOR – Tournament MVP David Williams poured in 34 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Elms College repeated as North Atlantic Conference champions with a 94-82 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington. Justin Davis chipped in with 10 points.
Travis Carrier lead the Beavers with 20 points and nine rebounds, earning All-Tournament honors.
Amherst 86, Bates 66
AMHERST, Mass. – Top-seeded Amherst advanced to the NESCAC championship game with an 86-66 victory over Bates despite a career-high 30 points from the Bobcats’ Zak Ray. John Bedford dropped in 21 points to spark the Lord Jeffs (24-2).
Baseball
Ole Miss 7, Maine 5
OXFORD, Miss. – Third baseman Kevin McAvoy went 3-for-4 in his Maine debut, but Ole Miss scored six runs over the fifth and sixth innings while posting a 7-5 victory.
Ryan Quintal hit a two-run home run in the first inning for an early 2-0 lead, and added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning with two outs to make it 4-1.
Jon Hancock had a three-run double in the sixth inning to provide the winning margin.
Relief pitcher Scott Robinson was tagged with the loss for the Black Bears (0-2).
Hockey
Trinity 3, Colby 2
WATERVILLE – Chris Diozzi scored his first collegiate goal at 13:56 of overtime to lift Trinity College to a 3-2 victory over Colby in a NESCAC quarterfinal game Saturday afternoon.
Bowdoin 5, Amherst 1
BRUNSWICK – Mike Waterman scored a pair of goals to lead Bowdoin to a 5-1 win over Amherst in men’s hockey action Saturday.
The Polar Bears (16-6-3) scored three unanswered goals in the third period.
USM 3, Salem State 1
GORHAM – Defenseman Steve Kelley netted the eventual game-winner as the University of Southern Maine outpaced Salem State with a 3-1 win in the first round of the ECAC playoffs Saturday.
Brett O’Neill scored the first goal on a power-play opportunity at 4:26 of the second period for the Huskies on assists from James LeBlanc and Kyle Smith. Kelley’s goal came four minutes later on assists from Mike Stevens, who scored the final goal of the contest, and Ben Loss. Charlie Levin spoiled the shutout with a conversion from Eduards Tomas and Steve Wenzel only seconds before the final buzzer.
