Area racewalkers earned high marks at the New England USATF Indoor Track and Field Championships held recently at Harvard.

Kate Dickinson, a junior at the University of Maine at Farmington, walked a seasonal personal best in the 3000 meter racewalk to capture second place behind Joanne Dow of Manchester, N.H., the national record-holder. Dow set a new American Master’s record of 12:44.89. Dickinson was clocked at 15:38.53.

Fininishing in third place with a personal best of 16:39.82 was Christie Bernier of Auburn, a 13-year-old eighth-grader.

Taking fifth place for the Maine Racewalkers was Sara Adams, a sophomore standout at Lisbon High School.

In the men’s race, Matt Forgues, 13, of Boothbay, finished second with a time of 15:06.48. The race was won by Michael Kazmierczak of the University of Rhode Island, 12:48.39.

Third-place finisher David Burns (15:07.54) of Scarborough, just squeaked by his son, Scarborough High School standout Taylor Burns (15:51.90). Tyler Campbell, 14, of Lisbon finished sixth with a clocking of 17:57.86.
