MEREDITH, N.H. (AP) – Searchers recovered the body of a college student in Lake Winnipesaukee on Saturday after he sank in open water during a midnight ride on ice that has been treacherous this winter because of unseasonably warm weather.

Norman Mabie, 19, of Manchester, a sophomore at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, was found around 3 p.m. Saturday, according to Fish and Game.

Searchers using an underwater camera located Mabie’s body.

He and another student plunged into the water around midnight Friday. The other student got out, but Mabie disappeared.

Fish and Game said the two were among four students who were staying at a camp on the lake.
