FARMINGTON – Helen Ellis, 84, of Wilton, formerly of Augusta, died Thursday, March 2, at the Sandy River Center for Health Care.

She was born on Dec. 15, 1921, in Shanokin, Pa., a daughter of Donald S. and Edna E. (Oswald) Cameron. She attended schools in Utica, N.Y.

Helen enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps in August 1943, and was discharged as a Tec 4 x-ray technician in February 1946.

While in the service, she met and later married, Ruel P. Ellis in Augusta on Jan. 28, 1946.

She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Ellis Auto Sales, and for other local businesses.

She was the treasurer of Bread of Life Ministries from 1987 to 1995 and was also the president and treasurer of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Augusta, which she belonged and was a soloist. Helen was also a member of the Rose of Sharon Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile 95, and life member of the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 in Jay. As a recorded artist in Augusta, she also sang on the 1976 Bicentennial Chorus Album.

She is survived by a daughter, Melinda Chouinard and her husband, Albert, of Wilton; a son, Ruel C. “Buster” Ellis and his wife, Janice, of Manchester; four grandchildren, Matthew Chouinard of Portland, Christopher Mc- Kenney and his wife, Lisa, of San Antonio, Texas, Cameron LaPlant-Ellis of Whitefield, and Elysee McDonald and her husband, Steven, of Whitefield; nine great-grandchildren, Darien, Brandon, Alexis, Chelsea, Mary and Jacob McKenney, Isabel, Logan and Nathan Ellis.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ruel, in 1978; and her 13 brothers and sisters.
