RUMFORD – Vera Jewel Arsenault, 83, of Maple Street, Rumford, longtime resident of Swift River Road in Mexico, died Friday, March 3, at Rumford Community Hospital.

She was born on April 22, 1922, in Memphis, Tenn., a daughter of Jack and Vivian (Simmons) Wiggins, and was a graduate of West Palm Beach High School in Florida.

Vera was married on Sept. 11, 1950, to Lucien J. Arsenault.

Vera was an Elvis fan and enjoyed listening to his music. She also had an ongoing love for elephants and enjoyed collecting them.

Surviving are her loving husband of 56 years, Lucien J. Arsenault, of Rumford; her son-in-law, Joseph “Steve” Young of Mexico; her grandson, Jonathan Young and wife, Christie; two granddaughters, Ashlynn Marie and Destiny Rae Young, all of Mexico; a sister, Francis Fuller and husband, Bufford, of Mississippi; a nephew, William Fuller and his wife of Germantown, Tenn.; two nieces, Stella “Tecca” Frank and her husband of Germantown, Tenn., and Bertha Kelley and husband, Nick, of Rumford.

She was predeceased by her mother, Vivian; and father, Jack; her only daughter, Gail F. Young in May 2003; and a sister, Stella Frank.
