BORN TO READ: Nineteen children and their teachers enjoyed stories told by Whitefield children’s book author Frederick Lipp at Halfway Down the Stairs Child Care Center in Phillips recently. He’s author of “Bread Song” about a young boy from Thailand living in Portland. The Born to Read program donated Lipp’s book to Halfway Down the Stairs last year when the center had a preschooler from Thailand attending. “Bread Song” helped her to conquer her shyness, both from her culture and her new country of English-language speakers. Lipp helped learn about Thai and Cambodian cultures.
