LEWISTON – Vivian Alice (Girou) Ross, 106, died March 11 at d’Youville Pavilion, where she had lived for the last four years.

She was born in North Yarmouth on April 8, 1899, the daughter of James P. and Janet (Glover) Girou. Her family moved to Auburn in 1900. In 1913, Vivian graduated from the ninth grade at Webster Grammar School on Spring Street, after which she completed two years of accounting studies at Bliss Business College in Lewiston.

Her first job was cashier at Abbott Brothers, a fine ladies department store on Lisbon Street, for nine years. Her last employment was 22 years at Central Maine Power Co., from which she retired in 1964.

She owned and enjoyed her home on Grandview Avenue in Auburn since 1934.

Vivian joined the High Street Methodist Church in Auburn as a child. In 1917, she transferred to Park Street Methodist Church in Lewiston, and circa 1921 became a member of Calvary Methodist Church in Lewiston, where she belonged to the Crusader Class and contributed her energy to many endeavors.

Survivors include her daughter, Alice Janet Ross of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Carrie Grant and Maggie Brann; and a brother, James A. Girou.
