AUBURN – Bertha R. Raymond, 94, of the Chapman House, 41 Pleasant St., formerly of 475 Sabattus St., Lewiston, died peacefully Tuesday, March 14, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care.

She was born in Lewiston, Dec. 10, 1911, the daughter of Alfred and Marie Philippon Tancrel. She was educated in Lewiston schools and was married in 1938 to Charles Raymond, who predeceased her Jan. 25, 1979.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed at Cummings Cleaners in the Northwood Park Shopping Center and was also an Avon Products representative. She was a very proud and independent woman who lived in her own home until last August.

She was a member of Holy Family Parish, and in earlier years enjoyed bowling on couples leagues and later with the Lewiston Senior Citizens bowling league until she was well into her 80s. She also enjoyed the annual summer fishing trips to Moosehead Lake with her husband, Charlie and family members, playing cribbage and pinochle with her neighbors and later with her senior friends at the Multi-Purpose Center and at Campus Cuisine.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Marie Tancrel and Jeannette Raymond, both of Lewiston; also her godchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special lifelong friend, Rejeanne Leclair of Monmouth.

She was predeceased by four sisters, Yvonne Leger, Leda Raymond Martel, Simone Grenier and Cecile Perreault; and four brothers, Arthur Tancrede and Alfred, Albert and Raoul Tancrel.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Roger Austin and the Hospice House for their special care, Holy Family Church Pastoral Care for their many home visits and all her caregivers at The Chapman House who treated Aunt Bertha like a queen during the few months that she resided there.
