Auburn – Theresa Beckler Stevens, 87, a resident of Upper Street in Turner, died Wednesday, March 15, at the Clover Living Center in Auburn after a long illness.

She was born in Jay on Dec. 25, 1918, the daughter of Earle and Beatrice (Partridge) Beckler. She was educated in the schools of Livermore and graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1936. She furthered her education at the Maine School of Commerce, graduating in 1939.

She worked as clerk of courts for Androscoggin County and later as office manager for Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston. In 1950, she married Harlan L. Stevens of Turner. He passed away on Dec. 28, 2000. She was a member of the Turner Universalist Church; a member of the Pomona State and National Grange, Turner Grange and the Turner Historical Society.

She and her husband enjoyed traveling and had been in every U.S. state except Nebraska, and had also traveled to London, Paris, Germany and Holland and danced in all of them. They had been to five World Fairs and two cruises, to the Caribbean and Hawaii.

She is survived by a daughter, Beatrice Graham and her husband, Herbert, of Turner; a son, Les “Sonny” Stevens and his wife, Fran, of Turner; two grandchildren, Justin Graham of Pompano Beach, Fla. and Ashley Graham of Turner; a brother, Mort Beckler and his wife, Alma, of Gainesville, Ga. and Orrs Island; a sister and her husband, Nellie and Louis Harmon of Livermore; sisters-in-law, Winona Beckler of Canton and Helen Beckler of North Jay, Margaret Stevens of Turner and Margie Stevens of Turner; a brother-in-law, Richard Waryes; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Ronald, Charles, Frank and Ed Beckler; and two sisters, Verna Waryes and Eleanor Pulver.
