AUBURN – Jacqueline A. “Jackie” Hotham, 82, of Rumford died Wednesday, March 29, at Hospice House, where she received their loving and considerate care for the last six days of her life.

Jackie was born on Sept. 9, 1923, the daughter of Edward J. and Ruth E. (Morrill) Fournier. She was raised in Mexico and graduated from Mexico High School in 1942.

After graduation she worked in Washington, D.C., where she lived with her sister, Norma. On June 30, 1945, she married the love of her life, Donald G. Hotham, in Waukesha, Wis. They later returned to the Rumford area, where they made their home and raised their family.

She stayed at home to care for her family while her boys where young. Once “the boys” were older, she would return to work at Rita’s Laundry on Hancock Street in Rumford.

Later she would work for many years as an unemployment claims clerk for the Employment Security Commission in Rumford, until her retirement.

She was a member of the Rumford United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school there for many years.

She loved to fish and was quite good at it. She and Don would spend many a sunny afternoon fishing from the Aziscohos Dam in Wilsons Mills or from the bridge at Hunter’s Cove in Rangeley. When she wasn’t fishing, she would often be seen working in the yard of her home on Hancock Street and planting lots of flowers.

Her family, her pride and joy, meant everything to her and she will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind.

She is survived by her two sons, Ted’ of Rumford and Randy and his wife, Trish, of Dixfield; her grandchildren, Daren Hotham of Scarborough and Stacie Hotham of Westbrook, Brian Hotham of South Portland and Kim Hotham of Dixfield; five great-grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Bumby of Westbrook and Alex, Nathaniel and Ashleigh Hotham of Scarborough; her brother, Edward L. Fournier of Virginia Beach, Va.; her nieces and their families, Robin and Rick Labby and their daughter, Haley of Chesapeake, Va. and Carol and Jerry Bragg, Ruth Berg and her son, Michael, all of Houston, Texas; and a very special cousin, Theresa Mercier, of Rumford.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 58 years; her son, Gary; her brothers, Theodore and Emerson “Mac” Fournier; her sister, Norma Betts; her dear sisters-in-law, Cybil and Claire “Ditty” Fournier; and her nephew, Douglas Fournier.
