LEWISTON – Ethelin R. Lowell, 82, of Rangeley died late Wednesday, March 29, after a short illness with her loving family by her side.

She was born, Nov. 18, 1923, in Rangeley, a daughter of Francis R. and Rose A. (Nelson) Barrett. She was educated in Rangeley schools.

On March 4, 1939, she married, Richard Lowell in Erroll, N.H. They made their home in Rangeley, where she worked for New England Telephone Co. as a switchboard operator, then for Richard Hunger at the Wood Turning Mill, later Taylor’s IGA and then Saddleback Mountain. Everyone who met her enjoyed her wonderful smile and pleasant voice.

She was one of the original members of the Rangeley Volunteer Ambulance and was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, but her greatest pleasure in life was time spent with her family and watching her children and grandchildren in their sporting events.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Richard, of Rangeley; three sons, Michael and his wife, Rachel, of Rangeley, Edwin and his wife, Susan, of Rangeley and Francis and his wife, Linda, of Coplin Plantation; two daughters, Linda Thibodeau and her husband, Pierre, of Rangeley and Leeanna Wilbur and her husband, Robert, of Rangeley; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Diana Lowell; two grandchildren, Christina Lowell and Richard Eustis; three brothers, Wayland, Norman and George Barrett; a sister, Jean Bachelder.
