Council meeting

AUBURN – Twin City Council 160, United Commercial Travelers of America and Canada, will meet at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Odd Fellows Hall, Elm Street. After the business meeting, a potluck supper will be served. All members and guests are welcome.

Networking speaker

TOPSHAM – The Midcoast Women’s Connection networking group will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the Topsham Public Library for a presentation by Johanna Irish, BSRT. Irish is a lead mammographic technologist with Parkview Adventist Medical Center. Women are invited to bring a friend and an appetizer or refreshment to share.

OES program

WALES – Lakeside Chapter 60, OES, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the Grange/Masonic Building, 322 Centre Road, to celebrate “Bring a Joke and Trivia Night.” All Eastern Star members are welcome. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.

AUBURN – Good Citizen Awards will be given to the winners in area schools at the meeting of Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in the meeting rooms of the Auburn Police Department, 2 Minot Ave. Charles Plummer will be the speaker. Breastfeeding

AUBURN – Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are invited to a La Leche League meeting to be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are welcome.

Discussion will focus on “Breastfeeding: The Mother-Baby Relationship and the Weaning Process.” All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome. For breastfeeding help or directions to the meeting, call the La Leche League leader at 782-6645. Call to register for the meeting.

Round table

BRUNSWICK – Robert Krick, historian at the Richmond National Battlefield Park, will be the speaker at the Joshua Chamberlain Civil War Round Table meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 13, in the Brunswick Junior High School cafeteria, Columbia Avenue.

Krick will speak on the Seven Days Battles in June and July of 1862 when Gen. George B. McClellan fought his way up the peninsula to within sight of Richmond, only to be forced to retreat by Robert E. Lee and his Confederate Army. The meeting is free and open to the public.

WLU speaker

AUBURN – “An American in Beirut” is the title of the program for the Thursday, April 13, meeting of the Woman’s Literary Union. Diane Russell Kidder will reflect on her life of four and a half years of living and teaching school in Lebanon. The 2 p.m. meeting will be held at the clubhouse, 19 Elm St. Refreshments will be hosted by Dorothy Bowyer and Marilyn Wilkinson, with Wilkinson in charge of the house decorations for April.

Easter services

WINTHROP – Palm Sunday, April 9, at the Winthrop Congregational Church will welcome six members into the church family. The traditional story of the Palm Sunday celebration will also include an adult baptism this year.

The Tenebrae Service on Maundy Thursday, April 13, will be a candlelight service at 6:30 p.m. Worshippers will gather in the vestry for a light repast of breads, cheeses, juices, tea, coffee and fellowship prior to the service.

On Friday, April 14, there will be a fish chowder luncheon at 11:30 a.m. The menu will include fish chowder, biscuits, crackers, pickles, homemade pies and beverages.

The Winthrop Ministerium will host the Easter Sunday sunrise service on April 16 at Norcross Point. The service will be moved to the Winthrop Congregational Church Sanctuary if the weather is uncooperative.

The Easter service will be at 10 a.m. at the church will be celebrated with special music and communion. All are welcome at all of the events.

Scrapping event

AUBURN – A scrapping event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the First Universalist Church of Auburn. The all-day event features a free lunch, goodies bag of crafting materials and vendors.

UU will also offer $1,000 in raffles and door prizes from local merchants. Located downtown at 169 Pleasant St., the church is handicapped accessible. The $30 ticket should be purchased by Friday, April 14. Call to register at 783-0461 or visit www.uuauburn.org.

Health program

LEWISTON – Dr. Kathleen Martin of Women’s Health Associates will discuss endometrial ablation and answer questions at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27, in the Lepage Conference Center, 100 Campus Ave. The program is free.
