RUMFORD – Benjamin J. Gaudet, 85, of Spruce Street, died Friday, April 7, at his home.

He was born in Yarmouth on Dec. 19, 1920, a son of John and Theresa (Arsenault) Gaudet. Benny was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1940, where he loved playing sports.

He married Theresa Cloutier on July 21, 1943, in Rumford; she passed away on Oct. 5, 2004.

Benny served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was employed for 41 years as an electrician at Oxford Paper Co. and retired in November 1982.

He was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Post 24, the Rumford Lodge of Elks BPOE 862 and the VFW of Rumford.

Surviving are a son, Steve Gaudet and wife, Barbara, of Rotonda West, Fla.; a daughter, Paula Puiia and husband, Carlo, of Rumford; five grandchildren, Steve Gaudet and wife, Beth, of Raymond, Suzanne Parker and husband, Will, of Nashville, Tenn., Matt Gaudet of Lakeville, Minn., Jessica Casey and husband, Ryan, of Rumford, and Ryan Goodwin and wife, Amy, of Brunswick; five great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Cooper Gaudet, Emma and Ethan Casey and Aidan Goodwin; and a special sister-in-law, Pauline Cloutier of Rumford.

He was predeceased by his wife Theresa; brothers, Melvin and William Gaudet; sisters, Emma Bernard, Rose Bilodeau and Mary Paradis.
