Softball meeting

RUMFORD – An organizational meeting for the Women’s Softball League will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, in the Greater Rumford Community Center on the ground floor. Representatives from teams that played last year and new clubs are invited.

The league is open to any female at least age 18 who has completed high school. In 2005, the league had nine teams, which played under modified pitch rules, and the season ran roughly from early June through late July, with a two-week playoff period.

Town forum

MEXICO – A community forum will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at the Mountain Valley Middle School. A free dinner is included, and an RSVP is required by Thursday, April 27.

The purpose of the forum is to bring community members together for a discussion of the River Valley resources and needs. Ideas will be used in planning future Healthy Community projects.

Celebration

BETHEL – The Mahoosuc Arts Council and the Maine Film Office will present a Celebration of Maine Filmmakers at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at Bingham Hall of Gould Academy. Admission is free. For more information, call 824-3575.

Birding treks

BROWNFIELD – The Tin Mountain Conservation Center will sponsor a program at 7 a.m. Saturdays, April 29, May 6, 13 and 20, at the Brownfield Bog to observe a diversity of bird life from ducks to warblers, as well as spring plant, fauna, reptile and insect development.

Trip leaders will include Dixie Coleman, Chris Lewey, Joshua Potter and Lisa Thurston. Participants should bring binoculars, rubber boots and a snack.

BETHEL – Donations are being solicited for the Bethel Historical Society’s annual St. Never’s Day sale on Saturday, May 27. Items in good saleable condition (no clothing or computers) can be left on the back porch of the O’Neil Robinson House, 10 Broad St., and the side porch of Stan Howe at 18 Broad St. For pick-up of items, call the society office at 824-2908.
