FARMINGTON – Senior Beth Burgess had four hits, including a double and two RBIs, to lead Leavitt to a 6-4 win over Mt. Blue in KVAC girls softball action Monday.

The Hornets (1-2) were trailing in the top of the sixth inning when their offense turned up the pressure and cranked out three runs.

Junior pitcher Brittany Gurney prevented the Cougars (0-3) from scoring in the home half of the seventh and finished with seven strikeouts in the win.

Natasha Howard was the only repeat hitter for Mt. Blue, recording a single, double and an RBI in the losing effort.

Telstar 5, Mt. Abram 1

SALEM – Telstar starting pitcher Jessie Farrington went the distance, gave up one run on four hits and had nine strikeouts to lead Telstar to a 5-1 victory over Mt. Abram in varsity softball action Monday.

Farrington also went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored, and Liz Rosenberg added two hits and an RBI for Telstar (1-0).

Heather Hayes led Mt. Abram (1-1) with a pair of hits.

Yarmouth 8, Poland 5

POLAND – Sarah Swan went 3-for-4, scored three runs, racked up two RBI and earned the win on the mound for the Yarmouth Clippers as they defeated Poland 8-5 in a WMC softball matchup.

Lizzi Whittemore hit two doubles and drove in two runs for the Clippers (1-0).

Brianna Pratte had two hits, two stolen bases, a run scored and an RBI for the Poland Knights (0-1).

Cony 14, Edward Little 0

AUBURN – Monica White dominated Edward Little’s hitters, fanning eleven batters in five innings of one-hit ball, as Cony blanked the Red Eddies 14-0.

Shelby Pelkey and Chelsea Soule each smacked triples for the Rams (2-1), and Kristi Violette, Meaghan Stimon, and Molly Hopkins each collected a pair of hits in the victory.

Oxford Hills 4, Mt. Ararat 3

TOPSHAM – The Vikings scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Tia Pratt, as Oxford Hills came back to beat Mt. Ararat 4-3 in a varsity softball matchup Monday.

Megan Guager and Mindy Rugg scored on the single, and Guager also hit a triple for the Vikings (3-0).

Monmouth 15, Wiscasset 2

MONMOUTH – Jen Lola had a pair of hits for Monmouth as the Mustangs trotted to a 15-2 win over Wiscasset in MVC softball action Monday.

Monmouth (1-0) scored 13 times in the first inning as Wiscasset allowed 12 walks and an error in the frame.

Michelle Miete had two of the Redskins’ (0-2) three hits, and drove in a pair of runs in the third inning to spoil the shutout.
