To confer degree

RUMFORD – Blazing Star Lodge 30, AF and AM, will meet in special communication at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, at the lodge hall, Route 232, to confer the MM degree on one candidate. The meal preceding will be prepared and served by members of Mt. Zircon Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. The meal will be at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting at 7:30 p.m.

Supper, sing

RUMFORD – A hymn sing will take place Wednesday, May 3, at St Barnabas Episcopal Church, corner on Penobscot Street and Rumford Avenue. The sing will help raise money for choir robes and song books. At 5 p.m. there will be a light supper of soup, bread and dessert, donations only. For more information, call Cindy at 364-2211.

Seniors center

RUMFORD – Rumford Senior Citizens Center is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. It may open also on Wednesdays in the future. The center is not connected with SeniorsPlus.

A special bingo will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the center. There will be gift certificates and prizes and all are welcome. Snacks will be available. Monies raised will be donated to Triad, which sponsors a Senior Citizens Appreciation Day every June. It is a free trip for seniors and disabled persons. Call or drop into the center for more information. Anyone age 50 or disabled is eligible to join the Senior Citizens.

There are 12 seats left for the group’s Hollywood Slots trip. The cost is $15. The bus will leave the center at 8 a.m. May 10.

The group will hold a basket raffle to benefit Relay For Life. Tickets are available at the center. There will be at least two baskets. The raffle will be drawn on May 19. The group is also accepting donations of nonperishable items to put into the baskets.

Team to meet

MEXICO – The Youth Resource Team will meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, in the Teen Scene at the Mexico Rec Center.

At the April 5 meeting, the group continued to work on youth employment and developed a rough draft of a flyer. They decided to develop an application for adults who want work done.

A safety training session is also being developed for the week of June 19.
