CLEVELAND (AP) – Manny Ramirez followed an intentional walk to David Ortiz with a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the eighth inning that lifted the Boston Red Sox to an 8-6 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night.

The score was 5-5 when Kevin Youkilis singled off Guillermo Mota (0-1) with one out in the eighth and stole second. Mark Loretta popped out and Cleveland decided to walk Ortiz, who hit his ninth homer of the year an inning earlier.

Ramirez hit a 1-0 pitch for his third home of the season and 438th of his career, tying Andre Dawson for 32nd on the career list. Ramirez has hit .400 (14-for-35) with 10 RBIs in his last 10 games.

Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth for his ninth save in as many chances, tying the major league record for saves by a rookie in April, set by Kansas City’s Mike MacDougal in 2003.

Curt Schilling failed in his quest to win his first five starts in a season for the first time in his 19-year career. He led 5-4 until Casey Blake doubled to open the seventh and scored on a single by Grady Sizemore.

Schilling allowed five runs and nine hits in 6 2-3 innings, striking out eight and walking two. Schilling, who threw 133 pitches, failed to join Babe Ruth (1917) and Pedro Martinez (2000) as the only Red Sox pitchers with five April wins.

Keith Foulke (1-1) relieved Schilling and struck out Travis Hafner to end the seventh, then allowed Aaron Boone’s two-out RBI double in the eighth. The Red Sox have won six straight at Jacobs Field since May 4, 2004.

Cleveland starter Jake Westbrook gave up two runs, six hits and six walks in five innings. The walks tied a career high, set against Toronto on Aug. 30, 2003.

Loretta’s two-out, two-run single put Boston ahead 2-0 in the second, but Ben Broussard hit a two-run homer in the bottom half. Jason Michaels singled home a run in the third and scored on a two-out double by Hafner for a 4-2 lead.

Youkilis’ sacrifice fly in the sixth and Ortiz tied it with his homer off Scott Sauerbeck, which matched the Red Sox team record for April homers set by Ramirez in 2001. Mike Lowell had an RBI single later in the inning, with Ramirez scoring as catcher Victor Martinez lost control of the ball when he applied the tag.

Notes: Westbrook caught Ramirez off second base in the third. Jason Varitek tried to advance from first on the play, and the Indians overthrew on the rundown and tagged him out at second before throwing back to third to catch Ramirez, with Martinez applying the tag. … Ramirez has 10 homers and 33 RBIs in his career against Cleveland.
