Cleanup day

AUBURN – Androscoggin Bassmasters will hold the annual Auburn Lake cleanup from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday April 29, from the Route 4 turnout. The club will be joined by the members of the newly formed L/A Junior Bassmasters, a bass club for kids ages 7 to 18.

The cleanup, dating back to the early 1990s, is one of several functions the two bass clubs will do in 2005. President Don Roberts said, “We look forward to this day each year in putting forth the club’s effort in keeping the Auburn watershed clean from any roadside debris that may try to enter the lake. It’s a very worthwhile cause and this year we’ll even get the young anglers involved.”

Fortier Chapter

LEWISTON – The Dr. Paul Fortier Chapter 52, Association Canado-Americaine, will gather at 7 p.m. Monday, May 1, in the Senior Citizens Room, Multi-Purpose Center.

The agenda includes election of officers and plans for the annual banquet at noon June 8 at Marco’s Restaurant. The meeting will conclude with refreshments and time for the members to socialize.

Brothers night

AUBURN – An invitation is extended to Rebekah and Odd Fellows lodges to attend the combination Friendship Night and Brothers Night at Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94 on Monday, May 1, at the Odd Fellows Hall, 50 Elm St. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. when a sandwich, salad and dessert meal will be served.

The meeting will begin at 7 when emphasis will be placed on the youth program at Camp NEOFA in Montville, owned and operated by the Northeast Odd Fellows Association. Firefighters

TURNER – The Androscoggin County Firefighters Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, at the Turner Fire Department. A supper will be served at 6 p.m.

To confer degree

AUBURN – A special meeting of Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.

Officers will confer the degrees of the order. All Eastern Star members are invited to welcome the new member. Refreshments will be served in the dining hall after the meeting.

Grange supper

WINTHROP – Winthrop Grange 209 will meet Tuesday, May 2, for a 6:30 p.m. potluck supper chaired by Gloria Sylvester. The business meeting and program will be at 7:30 p.m. The hall on Old Lewiston Road is handicapped-accessible.

Seniors dinner

AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, for their anniversary dinner at Martindale Country Club. Ronald Niggle will present a musical program.

The club met April 19 with President Caroline Chapman presiding. There were 75 present. Attendance winners were Pat Edwards and Frances Robitaille; pot of gold, Pat Donahue, Phil Cyr and Roger Briggs. The Easter hat contest was won by Felix Yurston. Lunch was lasagna. Bingo was played after lunch.

Student art show

LISBON FALLS – Lisbon High School will hold its annual student art show on Wednesday, May 3, in the school library. More than 200 students will exhibit art work in a wide range of media, including clay, photography, pen and ink, watercolor, pastel and pencil. Senior artists will be highlighted.

The show will be held from 2:15 to 3:30 and 6 to 8 p.m. Refreshments will be provided by Students Achieving A Functional Education, cafeteria staff, foods class and art students. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Spring festival

LEWISTON – The Stanton Bird Club will host its annual spring festival for the community on Saturday, May 20, at Thorncrag, East Avenue gate entrance.

This year’s festival is “Flying Wild Bird Festival.” One of the activities for children will be assembling birdhouses to be placed in the sanctuary. Those who work with wood and are willing to donate some birdhouses, unassembled, should call Paul Belisle at 783-3400. Rain date is Sunday, May 21.

Day camp

MECHANIC FALLS – Mechanic Falls Summer Day Camp will run again this year out of the Head Start building behind the tennis courts/multi-purpose rink.

The camp will accept up to 50 children (first-signed, first-served). Ages are entering grade one through entering grade six in the fall.

Cost for standard week hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., is $75 a week. Cost per week for extended hours, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., is $95. The camp will run for eight weeks from June 26 to Aug. 18. Forms may be obtained at the Town Office.

College workshop

LEWISTON – The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will present a workshop, “The Essentials of College Planning, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at the Lewiston Career Center, 5 Mollison Drive. Adviser Christy Le will lead the session.

Adults considering college are invited to participate in the free college-planning workshop. To register, call 1-800-281-3703.

The center helps adult students overcome class, social, academic and cultural barriers to higher education. Services include assistance in choosing a college, tutoring, personal and financial counseling, career counseling, assistance in applying to college, workplace and college visits and assistance in applying for financial aid.
