Trooper, trucker injured in crash

HADLEY, Mass. (AP) – A state police cruiser crashed head-on with a truck Thursday, sending the trooper and truck driver to the hospital.

Trooper David Kenney and Nicholas Ianniccheri were listed in serious condition at Baystate Medical Center Thursday afternoon.

Hadley police said Ianniccheri, 25, of Charlton, crossed the center line. The truck he was driving for East Coast Cable Communications flipped over, police said.

Police said Kenney worked at the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Hadley.

Tall ships to visit Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) – Two tall ships will visit Portsmouth this summer.

The Coast Guard training ship Eagle returns to the city for the first time in two decades in August.

The other ship, The Bluenose Two, known as Nova Scotia’s sailing ambassador, will dock in late June.

Tall ship visits attract thousands to the city, and the events this summer will include boat parades, receptions and tours.

BB gun shooting leads to suspension

KEENE, N.H. (AP) – A Keene State College student has been suspended after being accused of shooting two other students with a BB gun.

Christopher Guerette, 21, from Darien, Conn., was charged with reckless conduct after Tuesday night’s shooting.

He was accused of shooting from a dorm room window, hitting one student in the neck and the other in the torso as they played Frisbee. Police said their injuries were minor.

Guerette also was charged with marijuana possession and evidence tampering after he told officers he had tossed the BB gun in a river, police said.

Man pleads guilty to sex assaults

DOVER, N.H. (AP) – A former Dover man faces at least 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to repeatedly raping a young girl and photographing the acts.

Brett Sonia, 37, admitted assaulting the girl, a long-time acquaintance, numerous times between March and September 2003, when she was 13 and 14.

The prosecutor is recommending a sentence of 22 to 60 years in jail. Sonia’s lawyer agreed.

The case began in Los Angeles in 2003, after Sonia and the victim moved there from Dover.

He’s already been sentenced to six years in prison in California for assaults that occurred in that state.
