ORONO – Rashad Barksdale went 3-for-3 with four RBIs to lead Albany to a 7-4 win over the University of Maine in America East baseball action Sunday.

Maine (27-16-1) led 4-2 in the third inning, but Sean Gregory shut them down from there, hurling seven innings of shutout, five-hit relief. Albany scored four in the fifth to take the lead off Maine starter Jose Mendoza, who took the loss despite giving up just two earned runs.

Steve Sayre added three hits and two RBIs for Albany (14-28). Kevin McAvoy led the Black Bears with a pair of hits and two runs driven in.

St. Joe’s 17, Husson 6

STANDISH – St. Joseph’s College captured its second North Atlantic Conference title in as many years with a 17-6 win over Husson College Sunday.

Keil Martin led the Monks’ 17-hit attack with three hits and three runs batted in. Tournament MVP Wade Oliver also drove in three, as did Luke Enman, who also cracked a home run.

Bates, Williams split

LEWISTON – Bates College scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and held on to beat Williams College 8-7 in the first game of a doubleheader, but Williams roared back in the second game with a 19-3 win to earn a split in NESCAC baseball action Sunday.

Brian Mahoney went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, including an RBI double in the fifth that scored Donovan Driscoll with the go-ahead run.

It was the seventh straight hit for Mahoney, who was 1-for-3 in the second game to raise his school record to 48 hits this season.
