LEWISTON – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society has announced its 10th annual Strutt Your Mutt Dog Walk and Pet Festival from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 20, at Railroad Park.

The morning will feature a 9 a.m. shotgun start for walkers and their canine companions followed by a Blessing of the Animals, pet crafts, vendors, raffles, canine agility demonstrations and the judging of the new “I am NOT a DOG!” Photo Contest.

Attendees can also enter their pooch in one of the talent contests. Contest categories include Best Tail Wagger, Least Obedient Dog, Stupid Pet Tricks, Best Smile, Biggest Ham and Bobbing for Burgers.

All walkers are asked to collect pledges. There will be a registration fee for the talent contests of $3/class or four classes for $10. The money raised from this day will stay in the community and benefit the homeless, abandoned and abused animals at the Humane Society.

This is a “people” walk; dogs are welcome, but not necessary. Walking as a team through a business or with friends is also encouraged. Dogs must be leashed and have their rabies vaccination. No dogs in heat are allowed.

Pledge sheets are available at the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce in Lewiston, the shelter and local veterinary offices or online at www.gahumane.org.

The Humane Society, located at 3312 Hotel Road, Auburn, provides a haven for approximately 3,600 sick, homeless and abused animals a year. The primary support comes from fundraising events and donations.

Anyone interested in learning more about volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal should call 783-2311 or visit www.gahumane.org.
