PORTLAND – Three seminarians will be ordained to the transitional diaconate by Bishop Richard Malone, Th.D., at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

The transitional diaconate is the temporary position taken by a seminarian who is studying for the priesthood. Transitional deacons may perform the sacraments of baptism, may witness weddings and may deliver homilies during Mass.

Daniel Joseph Baillargeon of Old Town attends Blessed John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, Mass., and has an undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Maine.

Baillargeon is a 1971 graduate of Old Town High School and taught at Berwick Academy in South Berwick for 22 years. While in seminary, Baillargeon had both hospital and prison ministry.

Baillargeon will have a summer assignment at Our Lady of Peace Parish, Berwick, beginning Monday, May 29.

Gregory Peter Dube of Lewiston attends Catholic University of America’s Theological College and has an undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Maine, Augusta.

A 1996 graduate of Leavitt Area High School in Turner, and he was the assistant general manager of Hudson Bus Lines, Lewiston, before entering the seminary. Dube will have a summer assignment at Cathedral Parish, Portland, beginning May 29.

Bruce Michael Siket of Skowhegan attends Blessed John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, Mass., and has an undergraduate degree in physics from the University of Maine, Orono. He is a 1972 graduate of Madison High School and worked as a paper mill engineer, most recently for Great Northern Paper Co. Siket will have a summer assignment at St. Louis Parish, Fort Kent, beginning June 5.
