LEWISTON – The Lewiston city clerk’s department will offer special Saturday hours for people who want to register to vote or to vote by absentee ballot.
Residents who need to register to vote for the first time in Lewiston, or who need to change their name or address, may do so at the city clerk’s office.
Voters who wish to vote by absentee ballot may do so during the extended Saturday hours. Voters are welcome to come to City Hall to vote by absentee ballot or to pick up a ballot for a family member.
The office will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 10. The city clerk’s office is on the second floor of City Hall at 27 Pine St. An elevator is available right next to the office.
The primary election will be held Tuesday, June 13. During a primary election, registered voters who are enrolled in a political party cast ballots to select their parties’ nominees to run in the November general election.
In Maine, there are three official political parties: Democrat, Green-Independent and Republican. Registered voters of Lewiston, who are not enrolled in any party, are allowed to enroll in a political party at any time, and will be allowed to enroll in a party at the polls on election day. Changing political parties on election day is prohibited.
The following races will be appearing on the Lewiston ballots: U.S. senator, governor, representative to Congress District 2, state senator District 16, representative to the Legislature for districts 70, 71, 72, 73 and 74, judge of probate, county treasurer, register of deeds, county sheriff, district attorney and county commissioner, District 3.
Voter services may also be conducted during regular business hours 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
