INDIANAPOLIS – Liz Wanless, a 2004 Bates College graduate and member of the U.S. team at the 2005 World Championships, placed third Sunday in the women’s shot put at the U.S. Track and Field Championships.
Wanless, who now lives in Florida and competes for the New York Athletic Club, tossed the four-kilo sphere 59 feet, five inches to earn the bronze medal.
Jillian Camarena captured the event with a toss of 62-1, while Laura Gerraughty of North Carolina edged Wanless for second at 59-10.
Wanless, 24, entered the meet as the 14th best thrower in the world this year and third American. She broke her personal record in the shot put in April with a throw of 61-0.
