AUBURN – Washington Street traffic should be back to normal today as crews work to repair a defective iron pipe sewer main.

The sewer main failed about 5 p.m. Thursday, according to Auburn Sewer District Manager Norm Lamie. Crews began working on the main Friday morning, closing about 900 feet of the northbound lane, between Allied Road and the entrance to Maine Turnpike.

The main failure and the work didn’t affect sewer service.

“We were able to get to it quickly and keep sewer service flowing,” Lamie said.

Lamie said crews will finish the project later in the week, after the July 4 holiday. They’ll finish paving the work area then, he said.
