LEWISTON – A Lewiston woman’s foot slipped off the brake and onto the throttle, sending her car into the side of Rooper’s store on Sabattus Street on Saturday, according to police.

Katherine Rand, 67, had pulled into the parking lot, driven into a space and then burst through the building, leaving a gaping hole. Neither she nor a passenger were hurt, Sgt. Michael Parshall said.

No one inside the store was injured in the 1:05 p.m. accident either.

Police estimated the damage to her 1998 Dodge sedan at $500. The damage to the building was estimated at $5,000.

A store employee said the shop would stay open as usual and repairs would get under way Monday.

Another Rooper’s redemption location on Main Street was heavily damaged by fire last month.
