RUMFORD – The district manager for the Southern Maine Family Dollar Stores has announced plans for an expansion into Mexico.
Chuck Truesdell said the 21st Family Dollar Store in the southern part of the state will begin setting up in the Mexico Plaza at the former site of Food City on July 11. A grand opening will be held July 20.
He said the North Carolina-based retailer will continue to keep open the Congress Street store in Rumford for now. He said that was a corporate decision and he doesn’t know how long both stores will be open in the River Valley area. The Congress Street store has been a mainstay for the downtown business district ever since it moved into the area six years ago.
Truesdell said the Mexico store opening will the 41st in the state.
“We’re always looking for new sites,” he said.
The Rumford store employs four people. Truesdell said he isn’t sure how many more people will be hired once the Mexico store is up and running.
