PORTLAND – The Maine Tomcats, a men’s semipro football team in the A’ Division of the New England Football League, will kick off their 2006 season this Saturday, July 8, with an exhibition game at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

Maine will face the Seacoast Hawks of the AA Division. Starting time is 7 p.m.

The Tomcats have a four-game regular season home schedule, beginning Sunday, August 6 at 3 p.m. against the Penobscot Sea Dragons. Other home games are scheduled for Saturday. They include the Queen City Demons at 7 p.m. on August 12, the Notre Dame Cobras at 7:30 p.m. on August 26, and the MidCoast Chaos at 7 p.m. on Sept. 9.

Spectators are invited to an open practice at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Quinn Field in Deering Oaks Park.

The Maine Tomcats cheerleaders also announce the release of their 2007 calendar. A release party is scheduled for Bleachers Sports Bar on Preble St. in Portland at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 14.

It is the squad’s first-ever calendar. All cheerleaders will be available for autographs during the party.

Maine Tomcats players also will be available for a meet-and-greet session.
