NORTH JAY – North Jay Grange 10 is conducting a fundraising drive to restore the building.

Bing and Nancy Crosby of North Jay, with Patrick Libby and other local musicians, will perform a country music show from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at the grange. Admission is $5 for adult, $2 age 12 and under. Doors will open at noon.

Grange members will sell hot dogs plate for $1.50, and there will be a food and craft sale. There will be a 50-50 raffle and door prize drawings throughout the afternoon.

Those who wish can send donations to Mavis Lane, treasurer, 390 Keep Rd. Jay, ME 04239 for the restoration project. Those who have questions, comments or stories about the grange, may call the Lanes at 645-4628, or Marilyn Morse at work 645-2910 or home at 645-4211.

The Grange was founded on March 27, 1874, and it was placed on the National Historic Register on Oct. 23, 1974. It was the home of the last Grange Store in the country. The building is in the center of town and can be seen from all directions. It is in need of a new roof, paint and window repair, and the front porch needs to be restored and made handicapped accessible.

Grangers have raised more than $2,500 recently to receive a matching grant. Funds will help restore the front porch and build a ramp.

The grange holds bimonthly meetings, has food, rummage and craft sales and benefit suppers and presents an annual community service award. This year it was presented to Bing and Nancy Crosby. Members sponsor anniversary, birthday and funeral luncheons, donate knitted and crocheted items for local charities, help with Thanksgiving baskets and the local food pantry.
