SAN DIEGO (AP) – Chipper Jones and the Atlanta Braves made spacious Petco Park look like a bandbox.

Jones hit a two-run homer Sunday to give him an extra-base hit in 14 straight games, tying a 79-year-old big league record, and the Braves roughed up Jake Peavy during a wild 10-5 win that gave them a three-game sweep of the NL West-leading San Diego Padres.

The Braves won their season-high fifth straight game, and for the ninth time in 11.

Brian McCann also homered for the Braves, giving them 11 in the series. The teams combined for 16 to set a record for a series at Petco Park, which opened in 2004. The old mark was 14 during a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners from June 23-25.

The Braves scored 36 runs – a Petco record – on 43 hits in the series, including nine doubles. The teams combined for 56 runs – also a Petco record – on 82 hits.

Padres sluggers spent the better part of the first two seasons at Petco griping about the downtown park’s big dimensions. The Padres moved in the fence in right-center in the offseason, from 411 feet to 402.

The fireworks weren’t limited to balls going over the fence. Home plate umpire Bruce Dreckman ejected Padres manager Bruce Bochy and bench coach Tony Muser in the sixth inning, then ran Braves right fielder Jeff Francoeur and manager Bobby Cox in the seventh.

Bochy and Muser were tossed after Jones checked his swing with one out in the sixth. On appeal, third-base umpire Ed Hickox ruled that Jones didn’t swing.

Dreckman then ripped off his mask and began walking toward the Padres’ dugout while exchanging words, apparently with Muser, who was tossed. Both Muser and Bochy came out to argue, and Bochy eventually was thrown out. Bochy kept arguing and had to be restrained by first base umpire Gary Darling. Bochy slammed his cap down near home plate before heading to the dugout.

Bochy jawed at Dreckman after Andruw Jones struck out to end the third inning, apparently unhappy that the ump called three straight balls during the at-bat. Peavy, who lost his fourth straight decision, glared at Dreckman as he left the mound following that at-bat.

In the seventh, Francoeur struck out and said something to Dreckman on his way back to the dugout and was tossed. Cox came out to argue and was run.

Chipper Jones hit a 424-foot homer to right-center with two outs in the fourth to give the Braves a 7-1 lead. It was Jones’ third homer of the series and 14th this year. He hit two in Friday night’s 15-12, 11-inning win, which was the highest-scoring game in Petco’s three-year history.

He added an RBI single in the eighth to finish with three hits and three RBIs. Brian McCann homered to right leading off the second, his eighth, and added a two-run single in the eighth. McCann hit a three-run shot in Saturday night’s 11-3 win.

San Diego’s Brian Giles missed hitting for the cycle by a homer.

The Braves scored six runs in the fourth. Scott Thorman doubled in two, Wilson Betemit hit an RBI double, and Edgar Renteria had an RBI single.

San Diego’s Khalil Greene hit a two-run homer in the fourth, his 13th. The Padres pulled to 7-5 in the fifth.

Peavy (4-9) has lost six of seven decisions. Winless since May 28, he allowed seven runs and eight hits in six innings, struck out seven and walked four.

Chuck James (4-0) allowed five runs and six hits in five innings, struck out three and walked one.

Notes: Jones and McCann each had seven RBIs in the series. … Braves 2B Marcus Giles is expected to miss a few more games with a sprained left thumb sustained when he slid headfirst into second base in the first inning Friday. … RHP Tim Hudson, who went only three innings Friday, will start Tuesday night at St. Louis.
