PORTLAND (AP) – Chad Spann had three extra-base hits and drove in four runs and Luis Mendoza pitched seven strong innings as the Portland Sea Dogs beat the Connecticut Defenders 10-1 on Sunday.

Brandon Moss went 4 for 5 with two doubles and Luis Jimenez homered and had three RBIs in Portland’s 15-hit attack.

Spann and Jimenez hit doubles as the Sea Dogs took a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Jimenez made it 6-0 with a two-run homer in the third.

Spann’s triple and Moss’ double led to two runs in the fourth.

Quincy Foster had three hits and scored the only run for the Defenders.

Mendoza (1-3) struck out seven, walked none and scattered seven singles.

Connecticut starter Geno Espineli (5-3) surrendered nine runs in four innings to take the loss.
