LEWISTON – Steven Stone Schumacher, M.D., a trauma and general surgeon, has been appointed to the Central Maine Medical Center medical staff. He is practicing with Central Maine Surgical Associates, a CMMC surgical practice.
Prior to beginning his work at CMMC, Schumacher was in private practice in Lafayette, La., for 11 years.
A graduate of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La., Schumacher earned his medical degree at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He served a residency in general surgery at Louisiana State University Medical Center, also in New Orleans.
He is certified by the American Board of Surgery.
Schumacher is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Southeastern Surgical Congress. He is a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society and is a past president of the Lafayette (Louisiana) Parish Medical Society. He has served as chair of Louisiana¹s Region IV Healthcare Planning Council, and was appointed to the Louisiana Governor’s State-Wide Regional Trauma System Task Force. He was active in Louisiana¹s statewide EMS program.
He served in the U.S. Navy submarine force and was honorably discharged in 1981. He also worked as an EMT during his undergraduate and medical school education.
Schumacher resides in Auburn.
