RYE, N.H. (AP) – Beaches in Rye were reopened Tuesday after being closed earlier because of high bacteria levels.

Officials said that the heavy spring rains increased runoff into the ocean, leading to the high levels of bacteria. Signs were posted urging swimmers to not go into the water because of the risk of becoming ill.

Testing indicated the beaches were safe to be reopened.
