SABATTUS – At the June meeting of the Sabattus Sanitary District, Richard Behr was presented a jacket by Chairman Walter Wood in recognition of his 20 years of service as a member of the board of trustees, many of them as chairman.

Behr led the fledgling sanitary district from questionable financial status to a thriving district with five employees and 1,000 customers, including water and sewer.

In 1990, the water district hired the sanitary district to do the billing for them, and several years later, the sanitary district acquired the water district, forming on district with two divisions under a five-member board of trustees.

In 1992 Behr was instrumental in acquiring an upgrade for the sewer treatment facility. Under his watch, the Oak Hill Home Park was added to the water division with about 100 new customers. Behr served from March 1986 to March 2006.
