Tryouts set
RUMFORD – Tryouts for fall sports at Mountain Valley High School will be held on Monday, Aug. 14.
Meetings for all parents of and students who wish to play this fall will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, in Muskie Auditorium at the school.
Students wishing to try out must return a signed permission slip to the school office, have on record with the school proof of passing a sports physical, good for two years, and have no outstanding bills with the school.

Football callouts
RUMFORD – Mountain Valley Middle School Coach Gary Dolloff has announced that the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade football callouts will take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, in the back parking lot of the school.
Permission slips and equipment will be passed out. Before participating, athletes must return the signed permission slips to the office and have an up-to-date physical, one within the last two years. Any questions may be directed to the school at 364-7926 or Dolloff at 369-9193.
Musical program
CARTHAGE – A group of musicians called Tripping Lily will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at the New England Celtic Arts Skye Theater, 2 Highland Drive. Tripping Lily blends a sound of traditional and contemporary genres.

Night gymkhana
ANDOVER – Ellis River Riders will hold a night gymkhana Saturday, Aug. 5, as well as an open show on Sunday Aug. 6.
Bridge play
RUMFORD – Rumford Bridge Club winners at the July 27 game were: first, Stan Sotman and Bob Soucy; second, Anna Cormier and Tom Rowe; third, Jean and Bill Hersey; fourth, Ann McCluskey and Judy Roy.
Martineau reunion
DIXFIELD – The descendants of Joseph and Blanche Boivin Martineau held their sixth family reunion on July 22 at Mountain View Campground. Marcel and Nila Martineau hosted the 60 members present, with nine of the 11 family members. There also were two members of the fourth generation, Jacob Sinclair of Mexico and Jocelyn Wood of Sabattus.
Leah Girardin of Presque Isle was in charge of entertaining the children. They did crafts, played games and won prizes. A buffet lunch was served at 12:30 p.m.
Family members came from Dunnellon, Fla.; Glen Allen, Va.; Toms River, N.J.; Raymond, Derry and Berlin, N.H.; Weymouth and Newburyport, Mass.; Sabattus, Westbrook, Standish, Presque Isle, Gray, Canton, Jay, Dixfield, Mexico and Yarmouth. Guest ages ranged from oldest, Joe Martineau, 78, of Dixfield; to youngest, Ashlee Stec, 3, of Toms River, N.J.
The next reunion will be in July of 2008 with Pam and Jason Fontaine of Gray, next year’s committee.
