RANGELEY – More than 70 artists will participate in Thursday’s Sidewalk Art Show, covering every medium from photography to watercolors, baskets to metal work, jewelry to driftwood and folk art to fiber arts.

“It’s pretty well balanced,” said Anne Walker, a member of the organizing committee Rangeley Friends of the Arts.

Visitors can expect to find high quality art, thanks in part to the show being juried.

“The jurying process has raised the level of art we see quite a bit,” RFA member Heidi Sorensen said. “It’s all original and handmade.”

A number of the artists have crafted their skill over many years and are regulars at the Sidewalk Art Show. While artisans are coming from all over Maine as well as other states, at least 20 are Rangeley artists.

“I believe it’s the beauty of this area. There’s so much inspiration,” said Sorensen who is a watercolor and collage artist. “The vistas are phenomenal, and the tourist economy gives us a (market) to be able to sell our art.”

Walker is a fiber artist, making art quilts and fabric collages. She has been quilting for several years, but is not sure when she began to focus on more pictorial quilts.

“It was gradual,” she said. “They just started getting artier and artier.”

The art show will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Rangeley Inn green.
