Katharine McPhee can’t seem to catch a break. Or rather, she can, and that’s the problem.
This season’s “American Idol” runner-up broke her foot Tuesday after tripping backstage at the “Idol” tour’s stop in Charlotte, N.C. According to several news reports, X-rays taken after the show revealed she suffered a hairline fracture in her left foot.
Despite the mishap, the 22-year-old went through with her performance, singing her songs while wearing slippers.
The injury continues a string of bad luck for McPhee on the “American Idol” tour, which has been on the road for about a month now. She missed the first few weeks of the tour after contracting bronchitis, which also caused her to lose her voice.
She was well enough to serve as a guest host of ABC’s “The View” last week, but that night-Thursday, July 27 — she missed what was to have been her first appearance on the tour when bad weather grounded her flight to Pittsburgh. She joined her fellow finalists in Washington the next night.
McPhee plans to remain with the tour as she recovers from the fracture. Just don’t expect to see her performing in high heels anytime soon.
Sci Fi beams up ‘Enterprise’
The Sci Fi Channel has gotten its hands on a piece of the “Star Trek” franchise, picking up rights to the prequel series “Star Trek: Enterprise.”
The deal with CBS Paramount Domestic TV, which syndicates “Enterprise,” also includes an extension of the cable network’s contract for “The Twilight Zone” as well as rights a pair of Stephen King miniseries and several short-lived shows with supernatural bents, among them “Threshold” and “Wolf Lake.”
“We are delighted to be able to deliver so many successful programs to our audience,” says Thomas Vitale, head of programming at Sci Fi. “Our deal with CBS Paramount enables us to bring a great deal of fresh and extremely popular genre programming to our schedule.”
The centerpiece of the deal is “Enterprise,” which ran on UPN from 2001-05. It’s set about 100 years after “First Contact” and stars Scott Bakula as Jonathan Archer, commander of the newly commissioned ship Enterprise.
